Battlelog and Battlefield 3 have been experiencing ongoing server outages since early Wednesday morning (5/8/13). Despite developer DICE’s best efforts to resolve the problems, which they say are the result of activity intentionally aimed at overwhelming their back-end infrastructure, the servers still aren’t stable again.

With the recent reveal and ongoing development of Battlefield 4, you might assume that DICE had put Battlefield 3 on the back burner. Well, you’d be mistaken. A post published today on Battlelog reveals that the developer hasn’t finished dishing out double XP time for the 18-month old game just yet.

In celebration of End Game becoming available to all Battlefield Premium members this weekend, DICE have announced that they will be flicking the Battlefield 3 double XP switch on. Starting Friday, March 15 at 2pm PST, all Battlefield Premium members will get 72 hours-worth of double XP. The double XP will be active across all maps and game modes (not just End Game) on all ranked servers.

Battlefield 3: End Game, the final expansion pack for the game, went live for PlayStation 3 Battlefield Premium members today. We have already had a good look at the expansion in the run-up to release (you can find our pre-release coverage of End Game here), but today the team at DICE and Electronic Arts released yet another trailer, the End Game launch trailer.

It has been a long road for Battlefield 3 since the game launched back on October 25, 2011. With several game-changing updates being released over the past 18-months or so, and the fifth and final expansion pack End Game being made available to the first subset of BF3 owners today (PS3 Battlefield Premium members, full release schedule here), it will soon be time to hand the baton over to Battlefield 4.

Although DICE are currently knee-deep in Battlefield 4 development, they haven’t just pushed Battlefield 3 support and development to one side.
